Cam Everside Away 30th Nov 2019

Longlevens u15s travelled to Cam Everside to play a league cup quarter-final match on a cold and fresh morning. The game was switched to the 3G pitch at Rednock School and the game reduced to 30 minutes each way due to the regular Cam pitch being unplayable.

The game started well for Longlevens and they exerted their pressure on the Cam defence straight away, creating a number of clear cut chances. The dominance eventually paid off when Jude won back the ball on the edge the Cam area and shot towards goal. The keeper should maybe have kept it out but 'Levens weren't complaining and were happy with their deserved lead.

The rest of the half was a more even affair as Cam edged their way into the game. Some last-ditch defending was required by the Longlevens defence to keep the lead intact prior to the half time whistle.

The second half started the way the first ended with both sides going for it. But it was Cam who hit back, taking advantage of a mistake in defence and when it broke to the Cam attacker he struck it well enough to sneak past Jon into the corner of the net. This didn't deter the Longlevens boys and their new steely mentality and they re-took the lead very soon after. As the ball dropped to Jenson, he hoisted a well-aimed pass towards Chris to run onto and with plenty still to do he lobbed the ball perfectly over the Cam keeper to make it 2-1.

This match was far from over, though. Cam continued to push forward and were eventually rewarded with their second equaliser when a cross come shot from the left evaded Jon and went straight into the top corner.

This game was up for grabs and both teams pushed for the winner. And with 5 minutes left, a long ball from the Longlevens goalkeeper was expertly flicked on by Jae straight into the path of Ben who evaded the challenge of his marker and slotted the ball past the onrushing keeper to make it 3-2 to the visitors.

Cam kept pushing forward in search of a 3rd equaliser as the minutes clicked down. With seconds to go, Cam claimed a free kick on the edge of the Longlevens penalty area. It was struck perfectly and as Jon dived in vain to his right the ball crashed against the post, bounced across the face of the goal and was eventually cleared by the Longlevens defence. The whistle went and a jubilant and relieved Longlevens march on to the next round.
