Levens U15s March On In County Cup

U15s embarked on their 2nd cup game in as many days against a team that historically had bested them on many of their previous meetings. However, the boys were on a run of 4 consecutive victories in all competition and came into the game full of confidence. It was the visitors, though, who started the stronger and although there was some fine play from both sides early on it was Minch who scored a well-worked opener.

The game ebbed and flowed with both sides showing attacking intent and it was ‘Levens who scored the next with an excellent finish from Ben having been played in by Pheonix, and the teams went in at the break level at 1-1. The game remained well contested after the interval but again the visitors scored next midway through the second half with another well-worked goal.

‘Levens, though, were not to be denied and they entered the last 10 minutes with the energy that had been the hallmark of their recent performances. When Levens gained a free kick 30 yards from goal an unusual taker was called forward from the back and was given licence to shoot. Alfie stepped up and slammed the free-kick straight into the top corner to record his first-ever goal in competitive football, and what a way to open your account! A special goal.

This certainly gave the boys the momentum to go in search of a later winner, and indeed they found it with some great work from Jae down the right which lead to the ball popping up in the area and Ashton, the smallest player on the pitch, leaping and managing to get a decisive header over the line from close range. An excellent game and one that was as entertaining as it was well fought.
