Golden Hill Sonics Home - 28th Sept 2019

These Bristol opponents had been involved with 3 incredibly close games with Longlevens the previous season which had seen ‘Levens take the spoils in both league encounters and Golden Hill win in the League cup. The opening exchanges suggested that this would also be a tough morning for the Longlevens squad.

Golden Hill took the game to ‘Levens from the kick-off and their passing and moving caused problems for the boys early on. However, it would be Levens who took the lead with their first attack of the game. A quick break down the right and some strong play by Jae provided a cross into the box where Ben was on hand to tuck the ball away following a mix up between defender and goalkeeper.

The game carried on with Golden Hill enjoying the majority of the territorial advantage, but another direct break from ‘Levens provided a one on one for Phoenix who finished with aplomb by lobbing the keeper. This gave ‘Levens the confidence to provide more of an attacking threat themselves and this pressure paid off when Ben was on hand to grab his second of the game from close range.

A super move by the boys produced a 4th before the break and it was finished beautifully by Jude who rounded the keeper and buried the ball into the empty net. The second half was largely dominated by Golden Hill who found themselves 4-0 behind having provided much of the attacking impetus in the match.

They kept the ‘Levens defence very busy for the entirety of the 2nd half and with 10 minutes to go deservedly got a goal back with an incredible shot from distance which sailed over Jon into the top corner. ‘Levens reacted immediately and Ben swung in a corner, which Jae met with a beautifully timed run and header to make it 5-1.

The move and goal of the match was reserved for the last couple of minutes. Some great passing from the midfield released Ashton who outpaced the central defender to finish first time with the outside of his foot to volley home the 6th. Golden Hill could feel hard done by the scoreline but the ‘Levens had shown how clinical they can be on this occasion and were deserved winners.
