The boys started their league campaign against Ashleworth at Longford Lane, a team against which they had mixed fortunes the previous season. Longlevens started strongly and could and probably should have been ahead in the first few minutes with their goalkeeper making two superb saves from Ben and Phoenix after good work from Jae on the right.
‘Levens kept pressing and eventually took the lead shortly before half time. After winning a free-kick midway into the Ashleworth half, Jenson was charged with getting the ball into the penalty area and his well-hit cross managed to evade everyone and went straight past the Ashleworth keeper into the net.
The second half continued in much the same way, with Longlevens always looking the more likely to score, and they did so shortly before the end with Jae scoring a well-deserved 2nd ‘Levens goal. A decent start to the season.
