Longlevens 3rds have win promotion to Stroud League Division One!!

Longlevens won promotion after securing. 7-2 victory over 4th placed Cam After Bulldogs Reserves a week ago, Longlevens afc third team achieved the feet of reaching the highest league its respective side has been in within the village clubs history, a league which only two years ago the clubs second team won.

This win ensured promotion to Stroud League Division One who now become the first club and 3rd team to have achieved promotion to the top league in the Stroud divisions since the leagues inception in the 1900’s.

Third team managers Dan English and Dan Macdonald were full of praise for their young side,

“Its a credit and testament to all the players, staff, committee and management of all teams at the club, both past and present, and is another indicator of how well the club is progressing both on and off the field”

“Promotion to Stroud 1 was always our target at the start of the season and we are extremely happy to have achieved this. The players have been fantastic all season for us. They’ve trained regularly Oct to March on tough Monday nights and with real enthusiasm and commitment. We have had our blips of course and have dropped points where we shouldn’t have, but they have stuck together as a squad, bought into what we were trying to achieve, stuck with us and all credit to them! Having a 3rd team now in Stroud 1 for the 2019 season, competing against most local first teams, is testament to the quality of players at this club”.

“We have some really exceptional young players who have been given opportunities in the reserves and first team and have not looked out of place one bit. There is a clear pathway within the club for the youth team players and any new young players to naturally find their level and if they have the ability, can now progress to play Stroud 1, Northern Senior 1 or Hellenic Premier football. The majority of our U17s team have already had game time for our 3rd and 4th teams this season and they should all now be looking to push on. They are certainly at the right club to do this”.

Players such as; Tom Powell-Davis, Harry Emmett, Rhys Lewis, Martel Sutherland, Toby Shelton, Jack Cornell and Isaac Johns have stared throughout the season, all of whom are on first team managers Mark Moores watch list for higher levels of football.

“The challenge we face now is to ensure the team keeps progressing forward to compete at higher levels of football, so pre season and recruitment is key!”

Unfortunately the side couldn’t secure the championship, loosing out on the final day to Rodborough after drawing 3-3 with Sharpness.
