Longlevens AFC Reserves - Champions of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League

Longlevens AFC Reserves - Champions of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League

Web Master9 May - 10:24

But highly controversial and farcical play-off awaits for promotion to the Gloucestershire County League despite winning the league.

After a 92nd minute winner at English Bicknor last Saturday, Longlevens AFC Reserves took the GNSL Division 1 title. They have little time to dwell on their victory though, next Wednesday they have a play-off game against Wessex Wanderers from the Bristol & Suburban League to see if they will be promoted to the Gloucestershire County League (Step 7).

Managers Craig Martin (Spider) and Ben Symons, assisted by Mike Rinaldi and Dale Rawlins rounded up their league campaign with a 3-0 victory against Tredworth Tigers on Wednesday night. The reserves have lost only 1 game all season and they put themselves firmly in the driving seat for the GNSL title with their 2-0 victory against fellow title rivals Whaddon United in April.

The club continue to express their dissatisfaction with the play-off system to get promotion to the Gloucestershire County League despite finishing the champion club of a feeder league to it. The winners of the GNSL have had to endure this play-off system for 5 seasons now and despite ourselves, other clubs and leagues in the north of the county expressing this, confidence in our county FA to sort this out or govern the local pyramid system is extremely low.

All support for this play-off game is welcome, full details of the game are below:
