A Golden Win as 'Levens Continue Great Start

Golden Hill Away - 15th Sept 2018
An away trip to Bristol against completely new opponents was on the menu for the u14s on Saturday.
The journey seemed to affect the boys adversely and Levens started slowly, struggling to deal with the physical presence of some particularly big Golden Hill players. Golden Hill eventually took the lead midway through the first half, and although Levens had chances to level before halftime, we went in behind. With a full complement on the bench to choose from 5 substitutions were made and Levens started more brightly, however, were still susceptible to the pace of the Golden Hill attackers on the break. Levens somewhat fortuitously found themselves on level terms when Jude’s corner floated straight in and soon after Ben scored to make it 2–1 to Levens, finishing with aplomb following a flowing team move down the right.
Levens couldn’t hold that lead however and the Golden Hill centre-forward was able to get ahead of our defenders to make it 2-2 with 8 minutes remaining. Time looked to be running out for both teams to secure a winner until the very last minute when a golden Hill defender inexplicably handled a throw-in from Jenson. With seconds to go, it was Ben who stepped up to smash the penalty straight down the centre and give Longlevens the win that looked unlikely during the first half. A testament to the team ethic and never say die attitude of this team.
